Gambella: Empowering Women for Sustainable Development in Gambella Region:
Mrs Alemitu Umot, the regional head of state, reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing initiatives that
benefit women across all sectors in the Gambella region. During a recent program held in Gog Woreda, Jenjor Kebele, she emphasized the importance of women’s potential in leadership and workforce participation, alongside her deputy, Dr. Gatluak Ruon, and other senior officials.
Mrs. Alemitu highlighted that strengthening women’s roles is crucial for achieving sustainable development and maintaining the peace that has been established. She praised the Prosperity Party for empowering women, promoting equality, and creating opportunities for their active involvement in national affairs.
The government is currently implementing various measures to safeguard women’s rights and ensure their participation in political, economic, and social spheres. The head of state noted that women are increasingly taking on leadership roles and contributing significantly to decision-making processes at all levels.
Empowering women is a core principle of prosperity, Mrs. Alemitu Umot stated, asserting that as women’s economic empowerment grows, so does their access to social services and decision-making power.
She urged women to engage actively in education and development initiatives. Diaspora women from Jenjor Kebele expressed their pride in having Ethiopia’s first female head of state in the Gambella Regional State.
They underscored that true development in the region hinges on women’s equal participation and benefits alongside men.
In conclusion, Mrs. Alemitu Umot called for continued support and enhancement of initiatives aimed at
benefiting women across all sectors. The event was organized by the Gog Aboro Association and the Abeta Women’s Association. Senior leaders also took the opportunity to inspect the construction of the Gilo River Bridge which will connect Gog to Dimma.
